Tech Tips and News

I'm back!

Here are a few tips to help those in need:

No Sound Real Player 10.1.0 to 10.4.10

Recently the audio on RealPlayer stopped working with my built-in speakers on my iMac. The fix below was just what my Mac needed.

Try the following steps.
1. Close RealPlayer (if it is opened).
2. Open Audio MIDI Setup (/Applications/Utilities/), then check the Audio Output setting.
2A. After going to Audio MIDI Setup go to the "Properties For:" pull down menu and choose the item "Built in Output". You will then be able to change the frequency which is labeled "Format"
3. Change the Audio Output setting to 44100.0 Hz or less.
4. Quit Audio MIDI Setup.
NOTE: You will find this in the bottom right quadrant of the window.
Re-open Real Player and you should have sound now.

Don't Toss that shuffle yet!

I was ready to send my shuffle to the recycling bin after it appeared to die, but Apple has a fix for those dying shuffles: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305204

Mac OS X 10.4.3 (#3): More on increased fan activity; Motion sensor on some PowerBooks/iBooks no longer recognized; more

“More on increased fan activity Users continue to report problems with increased fan activity after installation of Mac OS X 10.4.3. In most cases, these issues can be resolved by either…” MacFixIt  11/2/05 8:00 AM

Thanks For The Boost

I maintain this site as a labor of love; I have to because no one has offered to pay me, and it is nice boost when my inbox includes messages like the following one:

“Hey sorry just have to say thank you so much, I was trying to install itunes and i found your guide, saved me an early stroke!

Thanks!!!

Keep up the good work”

Thank you Mr. S! Helping people is my goal as a biology teacher and web master at Multiple Platforms.com (and Californiafairsandfestivals.com/) and I really have fun solving problems, even if I mess up my computers and iPods in the process. So, if something has been annoying you send me an email.
